Architectural Excellence in Bangladesh

Exhibition and Talks

12 August 2008

Sydney Australia

The Australian Institute of Architects (AIA) and the Bangladeshi Architects in Australia (BAA) jointly launching a week long Exhibition on " Architectural Excellence in Bangladesh" opening on the 12 August 2008 in Sydney , Australia .

This is a first exhibition in Australia focusing the Architectural excellence of one specific country. The exhibition is also supported by Powerhouse Museum in Sydney as part of their ongoing design festival. The exhibition will have works from great Architects like Louis I Kahn, Stanley Tigerman, Doxiadis, Paul Rudolph and Muzharul Islam. It will also have works from few nationally and internationally acclaimed Bangladeshi Architects like Rafiq Azam, Mustafa Khalid, Faisal Mahboob, Tanya Karim, Uttam Kumar Shaha and many more. One of the most attractive displays of the exhibition is the works of the 'budding' Bangladeshi-Australian Architects studying/working in Australia .

The exhibition will be complemented by a series of talks on the positive contribution of overseas Architects both in Bangladesh and Australia . The exhibition will be opened by Louise Cox, President of the Union of International Architects (UIA). The Hon. Bangladeshi High Commissioner (acting) in Australia will also attend the event and deliver his welcoming speech. The President's of both the AIA NSW chapter and the Institute of Architects Bangladesh (IAB) will address at the exhibition. There will also be presentations from international award winning Bangladeshi Architect Rafiq Azam on contemporary Bangladeshi Architecture and Professor Shamsul wares will talk about the history of Bangladeshi Architecture. The key topic on the Architectural Excellence in Bangladesh will be presented by the members of the Bangladeshi Architects in Australia .

The purpose of this exhibition and talk is to reinforce BAA's strong ongoing relationships with the AIA as a group of professionals to share knowledge and experiences and to create an environment of ongoing opportunities. This forum will strongly support the younger architects coming from Bangladesh to study/settle here in Australia , to avail some guidance, assistance and directions as needed.

The event will also launch the BAA website (www.baa-arch.org) which will work as the critical source of information for not only Bangladeshi Architects living in Australia but all other overseas Architects living or planning to settle in Australia .
